Hey, Spiffy here (or All4one, whatever you hip cats wanna call me - you could call me Jarrod if you wish). This is the lead single for our second album, which has yet to be titled, but will be released later this year (most likely around autumn)!
Since the recording of our first album, a couple of things have changed inside the band: specifically our personnel. For this second album, we've added Luke Slomba (formerly of Frozen Coco(!)) and Leron P. to the roster.
Luke will be playing drums, as well as writing songs and perhaps even playing some odd, nifty instruments like the melodica, ukelele, accordion, trombone, etc. etc. This is the first Probehead release that he'll play on, sitting behind the kit this time around!!! Oh, a drum kit of course. I guess I should have made that clea
Leron (or Ron, as we've come to call him) will be playing bass, as well as probably doing some fancy lead guitar interplay with Justin on a couple of tracks. Unfortunately, he doesn't play on this single, as he hasn't yet found a proper means of recording his material. But trust me, this guy is super skilled!! We've heard him play, and he's quite talented in various isntruments. The album renditions of these songs will be alternate versions, with bass and some guitar guitar to be performed by Ron. Justin plays bass on "Age of Flight", and I play bass on "On My Own". The single versions, that is. I guess I should have made that cl
All right, I'm going to try to avoid writing another wall of text, because of course it's the music here that matter the most. Y'know, the songs, the tunes (toons)!!!!
So let me just briefly describe the songs on this single for you, loyal reader, and I'll be on my way (not the Lennon-McCartney song that can be found on "Live at the BBC"!!!!!!).
"Age of Flight", the A-side, is a song written by Justin, and you could probably say it's a bit more 'experimental' than our past material. One of the highlights of the song is the little guitar buildup right in the middle. We're all quite happy with how this one turned out.
The B-side, "On My Own", is a funky sort of track written by me - actually, it was one of the first songs I wrote specifically for this album. Lately, I've been really into those groovy chord progressions that you can hear in quite a few 70's funk/R&B tunes. This song is basically me trying to incorporate those kinds of chords into a pop/rock format. There's also a guitar solo from Justin in here which is pretty great! The album version will have an extended fadeout with Ron performing an outro solo. Stay tuned (tooned) for that!
And that's basically the lead single for our second album! Right now, we're getting close to wrapping up the songwriting process for the record, and we've recently begun the recording process. If you want my humble opinion, I think the album so far sounds great - better than anything we've done to date, I think. But what do I know? That's up to you to decide once the album is released! And once again, the release will be later this year, approximately around the end of summer or during autumn.
In the meantime, we'll release one more single off this album in the near future, and we may also consider putting together an EP shortly after the album's release for you guys. But until then, we hope you enjoy this lead single from our first album!
