about

When I first put up the original forum topic on April 3, 2013, searching for band members to play in a new band of mine, I had no idea if the project would lift off, or if I would even find any willing participators. At that time, I don't think I even knew what sort of music I wanted to make. All I knew was that I just wanted to create music, simply for the love of music.

But there was still a question that lingered at the back of my mind. Would I be able to? Was I capable of carrying out such a big project as this? Sure, I did have experience in the past working in bands like the Walruses, a Beatles tribute band I played in exactly a year ago. But coming up with this band would be a completely different experience. Now I would be recording and writing my own songs, along with other band members, and considering the fact that I had scarcely written a decent song worth putting on record before the project, I was setting myself up for a pretty huge challenge.

Now it's November of the same year. It's been a little over 7 months since I posted that topic, not that long of a time if you think about it. But so much has changed inside those mere 7 months. Since then, I've built up a fond and steady songwriting partnership with jji7skyline, and now we're already releasing our first album, which is still unbelievable to me even as I write this.

Mostly written and recorded throughout the summer of 2013, recording this album has been an incredible experience for me. As production on the record progressed, I learned just what it is to create an album, and to write my own songs. And as time went on and we got closer to a finished product, I slowly became more confident and skilled to write more songs, many of which weren't even included on this album, since they weren't finished until production of the record neared its end. But my compositions that are here should make a nice showcase for some of my earliest attempts at this whole songwriting game.

That is, of course, this production isn't all about me. In fact, I could barely have gotten this far without major help from my friends. jji7skyline, the lead guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist for the group was a huge help in making this little project a reality. He wrote a sizable chunk of the songs here, and he was responsible for crafting our first single "Scuba Diver", our first musical impression on the public. Really, when it comes down to it, the entire project is just as much about him as it is about me. We both had an equal say in the creative direction of the project, so there was no real definite "frontman", and overall, I just had a brilliant time creating this album with jji, and I hope I'll be able to make many more with him in the future.

Of course, there were so many other people who proved to play an important role in the making of this album, even if they didn't write a single word or play a single note on this album. pinnipediator, the unofficial "third" member of Probehead, was the one who actually came up with the name "Probehead", and he was also able to contribute one song on here - "Policy Concept", on which he handles all the instrumental/vocal duties. AwesomeStar360 also helped us out a lot by contributing in the songwriting process of some of our very first songs together, and she has been a great supporter of our work from the beginning. NeilWest was also briefly a member of the band during the formative days of the band, but he soon left to pursue a solo career. Nonetheless, he was able to contribute the song "Procrastination", which was featured as the B-side to our first single "Scuba Diver", and he's in general been a very good friend of mine.

I also want to thank my best friends, who have supported me and the band from the day they heard about the Probehead project. They have seriously helped me a lot and inspired me with their endless support and amazing friendship. I'm absolutely grateful to have them as my friends, they are my best friends, and so I dedicate this album to them.

And lastly but definitely not least, I want to thank you, the listener, for taking time out to listen to our album. It really does mean a great deal to me and the rest of the band. Even if you end up disliking the album, just the fact that you took some time to listen to us is the greatest reward we could possibly ask for.

Only time will tell where we will go next after this release, and the only plan we have in the back of our mind so far for our next release is to keep branching out as musicians and songwriters to new reaches and territories that we haven't touched upon just yet. But until that time comes, we hope you enjoy the very first album release from Probehead.
